action images Monday night at Time Warner Cable Arena marked the last time "The Black Mamba" would ever hit the hardwood to take on the Hornets in Charlotte.

It was back in 1996 when Kobe Bryant was drafted out of Lower Merion High School that the Hornets selected him 13th overall before sending him to the Los Angeles Lakers, so the franchise will always have a special connection to the five-time champion's career.

Hornets owner Michael Jordan - who competed against Bryant during the twilight of his playing career - wasn't present for the game, but he did send the Lakers legend a video message which aired to fans prior to tipoff:

NEW YORK - The NBA Finals rematch between Golden State and Cleveland drew nearly 11 million viewers, making it the most-watched Christmas game in four years.

Related: Warriors win Christmas showdown with Cavaliers, improve to 28-1

The Warriors' 89-83 victory was watched by 10.9 million viewers, according to Nielsen. That was a 17 percent increase from the 9.3 million for the Cavaliers-Heat game last year that was LeBron James' return to Miami.

ESPN says Saturday that the game was the most-viewed on Christmas since 2011, which was the season opener following the lockout.

Overall, the five-game slate on ESPN and ABC was up 6 percent in viewership from 2014. Of the 13 times the NBA has played five games on Christmas, this was the first that all were decided by 10 points or fewer.

LeBron James, for the 10th time in 13 seasons in the NBA, is away from home for Christmas Day.

But that's not stopping James from dressing up alone in his hotel room in Oakland. The 31-year-old King looked downright ridiculous as he donned a ridiculous holiday-themed onesie.

Was it the nifty left-to-right crossover on Detroit Pistons shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope?

The around-the-back evasive maneuver?

Or the Olajuwon-inspired ball fake to subtract Ersan Ilyasova from the equation to give Wade an easy two?

Kobe Bryant tied his season high with 31 points Tuesday in the Los Angeles Lakers' 111-107 win over the Nuggets in Denver.

Bryant shot 10-of-22 from the floor - and was only 2-of-9 from deep - but got to the foul line a season-high 11 times, converting nine free throws. Along the way, he provided some vintage Kobe moments.

Of course, he showed his age a little too.

He tied his season high with a typically tough Bryant turnaround. Roy Hibbert approved.

The Lakers play again Wednesday at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder, a team Bryant sat against on Saturday. Will the second half of the back-to-back coming out of the thin air of Colorado sideline the 37-year-old again?

Byron Scott doesn't want Kobe to dunk anymore

Best price FIFA16 coins only here: http://www.vbgamecoins.com/en/2k16-mt-ps3-/80-nba-2k16-ps3-ps4-200000-mt-points.html

Kobe Bryant's farewell season has not gone as planned, with the Los Angeles Lakers dead last in the Western Conference and the 37-year-old currently shooting at an historically bad pace.

Things got even worse on Saturday night, as Bryant was forced to miss the game with a sore shoulder after throwing down his first dunk of the season during the previous contest.

The Lakers were miserable with Kobe out of the lineup, falling 118-78 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, causing head coach Byron Scott to state that he'd prefer if Bryant stuck to layups and jump shots.

"I don't want him to dunk no more," Scott said to Mark Medina of the LA Daily News. "I'll tell him to save it for Game 82. Then he can dunk again."

The 1997 Slam Dunk champion has seen his athleticism dwindle after sustaining numerous knee injuries. After totaling 51 dunks during the 2012-13 season, Kobe has made just nine over his last three years.

However, Scott knows that it will be difficult for him to prevent Bryant from dunking altogether, especially during the flow of the game.

"It's real hard to tell a guy 'Don't dunk,'" Scott said. "That might have been his last one. But he knows himself more than anybody."

Lillard sidelined by plantar fasciitis, will miss a game for 1st time in career

Damian Lillard will sit out a regular season game for the first time in his professional career on Monday, as the Portland Trail Blazers point guard will be sidelined against the Atlanta Hawks due to plantar fasciitis.

Fellow guard C.J. McCollum, who's nursing a sprained ankle, will also be unavailable on Monday.

Lillard, who admitted after Sunday's loss to the Miami Heat that his left foot has been "a little bit sore," had suited up for the first 275 games of his career before being ruled out of Monday's contest in Atlanta.

The 25-year-old is averaging 24.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.5 rebounds for the Blazers, as he looks to earn a third consecutive All-Star selection.

As for McCollum, the third-year guard has exploded out of the gates with averages of 20.1 points, 3.9 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals to entrench himself in the early discussion for Most Improved Player.

Small forward Harrison Barnes has returned to contact drills for the Golden State Warriors, but he will not play Wednesday against the Utah Jazz, interim coach Luke Walton said Monday. It doesn't appear that he will be ready to return for the Christmas Day showdown with the Cleveland Cavaliers either.

Barnes has missed the last 10 games with a sprained left ankle. Brandon Rush has been capably filling in at the three in Barnes' place, with little to nitpick about a team that has gone 9-1 in his absence.

Barnes, set for restricted free agency next summer, was averaging 13.4 points and five rebounds a game on 50 percent shooting from the field and nearly 39 percent from deep.

Irving sparked by Marshall's challenge: 'It was more or less a test'

Best price NBA 2K16 MT coins only here: http://www.vbgamecoins.com/en/2k16-pc/219-nba-2k16-pc-200000-mt-points.html

It took a while for Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving to get going Sunday night. After all, it was the first time he'd been in a full-fledged NBA game in 200 days.

So, after missing his first handful of shots against the Philadelphia 76ers, an unexpected source was responsible for initiating Irving's transformation into "Uncle Drew."

Related: Teammates mess with Kyrie Irving after triumphant comeback

In the third quarter, Sixers floor general Kendall Marshall awoke the sleeping 6-foot-3 "giant" by calling for an isolation play, aiming to take advantage of the seemingly rusty Irving.

Bad move, according to the three-time All-Star.

"That kind of got me going," Irving said. "He tried to iso me on the right wing. That was pretty funny."

While Irving is undoubtedly one of the Association's finest ball-handlers and an elite talent in a league full of prime-time guards, Marshall's bold challenge fueled the Duke alumnus in his second-half outburst.

The pair of point guards are hardly strangers - the two faced each other long before their arrival to the NBA, and played college ball in close proximity with Marshall starring at UNC.

"That was going back to our high school days. I've known Kendall for a while now. Him trying to go at me, it was more or less a test."

Irving passed Mashall's "test" with flying colors, as he helped his Cavs earn the 108-86 victory with his 12 points, four rebounds, and two steals.

The Cavs will play the Sixers once more this season - in Philly on Jan. 10 - and it will be interesting to see how brazen Marshall will be, with Irving presumably having shaken off all the rust by then.

Clippers' Paul: 'We're not a team that anybody needs to be worried about'

The morale of the Los Angeles Clippers is slowly sinking as the team continues to come up small against contenders.

Saturday's 107-97 loss to the Houston Rockets - who are coming off an appearance in the Western Conference finals last season - was just another example of the Clippers playing uninspired, lethargic basketball. Los Angeles trailed by as many as 26 points in the first half, and conceded an 8-2 run to open the fourth quarter after cutting Houston's lead to 12.

"We're not a team that anybody needs to be worried about, I'll tell you that," point guard Chris Paul said postgame, according to the Los Angeles Times' Ben Bolch. "Not right now."

It was during the second round of last year's playoffs when the Rockets eked out a 113-100 Game 7 victory at the Toyota Center to send the Clippers packing. Back at the scene of the crime, head coach Doc Rivers' squad failed to put the hammer down on a Rockets team that's widely considered the biggest disappointment in the West after finishing second in the conference a year ago.

"We came out with no energy, no intensity on both ends of the floor,” Paul's teammate DeAndre Jordan added. "This loss was on the starters. We came out and we didn't establish anything, really."

This is the second time in a matter of days a Clippers player has openly questioned the team's standing in the NBA's upper echelon. J.J. Redick said the Clippers are "not as good as San Antonio or Golden State" after losing to the Spurs on Friday.

Los Angeles dropped all three of its meetings against the Spurs and Golden State Warriors this season, and 10 of its 16 wins have come versus teams not currently in the playoff picture.

The Clippers played seven of their last eight games away from the Staples Center, and return home to host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday before hitting the road again for a five-game trip.

Basketball coaches at every level loathe an apathetic approach on the defensive end.

For the 2015-16 iteration of the Houston Rockets, coordinated and fully-engaged defensive efforts have been about as frequent an occurrence as a lunar eclipse.

During Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers, James Harden reminded us why his team ranks in the bottom third of the league across most defensive statistical categories.

On this play, DeAndre Jordan loses his man on a screen, putting the onus on Harden to step into the lane to prevent the Clippers big man from getting to the rim unimpeded.

Apparently, defense has been outlawed in southeast Texas.

Kyrie Irving to make season debut Sunday vs. 76ers

Kyrie Irving will make his 2015-16 season debut Sunday at home against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard revealed Saturday on Twitter:

Irving, who will work under a minutes restriction his first couple of games back, has been out of action since Game 1 of last year's NBA Finals following surgery to repair a fractured left kneecap. His initial recovery time was set at three-to-four months.

>

A recent report by ESPN's Dave McMenamin had Irving pegged to return this past Thursday against the Oklahoma City Thunder, although the three-time NBA All-Star eventually refuted the story, letting fans know that he would tell everyone directly when he was set to come back.

"I'm glad that I'm at this point," Irving said following practice on Saturday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Chris Haynes. "I'll probably go home and let all of my emotions out, but I'm pretty F-ing excited to be out there with my brothers."

Related: Kyrie Irving's return should give LeBron some much-needed rest

The Cavaliers have held their own without Irving's services through the first 24 games of the season, compiling a 17-7 record for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. The team's success eliminated any need to rush Irving back, even though the Duke product reportedly grew anxious to play.

"I've been ready to play, but bio-mechanically, we just wanted to make sure everything was good so I'm not putting myself at higher risk to go out there and get hurt again," Irving said.

The lowly 76ers (1-27) present a fairly easy challenge for Irving's first minutes back. However, head coach David Blatt previously insisted the quality of opponent wouldn't factor into when Irving would finally hit the hardwood.

"Not at all," Blatt said following Thursday's 104-100 win over the Thunder. "We have also have been pretty consistent about wanting to put Kyrie on the floor when he's ready, and we still have some steps to go through before we're confident that he's ready. So, when we get to that point, then we'll put him out there regardless of what team we're playing."

In 75 appearances last season, Irving averaged 21.7 points and 5.2 assists on 46.8 percent shooting, earning a spot on the All-NBA third team.

Barkley: 1995-96 Bulls 'would kill' Warriors

With a 25-1 record, the Golden State Warriors are a threat to break the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' record for most wins in a season (72).

However, despite their impressive record, TNT's Charles Barkley doesn't believe the Warriors could hold a candle to the old-time Bulls.

"That Bulls team would kill this little team," Barkley said on ESPN Radio's "Waddle & Silvy" show. "Come on, man. Who is going to guard Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan? What about Dennis Rodman?"

The criticism is harsh, especially considering the Warriors have a higher point differential (+13.5) than the Bulls did in their record-breaking season (+12.2). Don't tell that to Barkley though, who doesn't think the NBA is as difficult as it once was.

"First of all they would love playing the way the Warriors play. It's a much easier game now. Could you imagine how many points Michael would average if you couldn't touch him? (Rodman) would get so many rebounds against that team. They are a very small team."

The Warriors would need to go 47-9 to tie the all-time record, or 83.9 percent of their games, but that mark isn't out of the realm of possibility after they won 81.7 percent in 2014-15.

An all-time team in the making: The Spurs' 21-5 start by the numbers

In any other year, what the San Antonio Spurs have done to start this season would be the talk of the Association.

Of course, when the defending NBA champions, led by the reigning MVP, get off to the record-breaking start that Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are off to, everything else tends to fly under the radar.

Gregg Popovich, Tim Duncan, and the Spurs wouldn't have it any other way, but if you've been sleeping on the five-time champs, here are a few numbers to consider.

66

They may not be chasing the 1995-96 Bulls, but with 21 wins in their first 26 games, the Spurs are on pace for 66 wins. To put that in perspective, even the Spurs themselves, one of the best pro sports franchises around since their inception 42 years ago, have never won more than 63 games.

Put another way, only 11 teams in NBA history have finished with a winning percentage higher than the Spurs' current mark of .808. Eight of those 11 teams won a championship, while 10 of 11 advanced to the conference finals.

91.8 Any defense that allows less than 100 points per 100 possessions is one worth boasting about. A defense that flirts with allowing less than 90 points per 100 possessions is an all-timer.

Through nearly a third of the season, the gap between the Spurs' league-leading defensive rating of 91.6 and the second-ranked Miami Heat's defense is equivalent to the gap between Miami's D and the 15th-ranked Atlanta Hawks. The Spurs are defending at the best rate the NBA has seen in 12 years, since the 2003-04 iteration of Popovich's Spurs allowed just 91.6 points per 100 possessions.

The 2015-16 Spurs' mark of 91.8 is the second-best defensive rating recorded in NBA.com's 20-year archive, and their Basketball Reference defensive rating is the fourth-best mark since 1973.

+13.2

Speaking of NBA.com's 20-year advanced stats archive, only one team in that database has posted a better net rating per 100 possessions than this year's Spurs (+13.9) - that would be this year's Warriors (+14.8). But when it comes to raw point differential per game, not even the Warriors can top the Spurs' mark of +13.2, aided by Monday's 118-81 beatdown of the Jazz.

For what it's worth, only eight teams in NBA history have posted an average point differential of at least +10.0 (including last year's Warriors), but no team has ever been better than +12.26. Of the eight that have been +10 or better over an entire season, seven went on to win the title, while the other - the 1971-72 Bucks - lost to one of the other eight, the 1971-72 Lakers.

If the first seven weeks of the 2015-16 season are any indication, one of the Spurs or Warriors could join the 1972 Bucks as a historic team that just happened to have the misfortune of running into another all-time squad.

Nike unveiled Kobe Bryant’s latest signature shoe to the delight of Los Angeles Lakers fans and shoe-heads across the globe. Just imagine Mamba Nation’s excitement, then, about this awesome promotion from the future Hall of Famer as his storied career finally comes to a close.

Near the end of a Periscope event that launched the Kobe 11, host Kevin Frazier revealed that Bryant will place 20 pairs of signed sneakers around the world – and his fans will have a chance to find them.

“On 12/22, Kobe is going to hide 20 pairs of these 11s around the world in special places – and he’s signed them,” Frazier said.

How can you get your hands on a pair of autographed Kobe 11s?

“There will be hints. There will be questions that pose clues,” Bryant explained. “Some of the questions will be standard stuff; growing up questions and things like that. Other ones will be centered around innovation, so it’s important for them to really understand the product as well. But yeah, we’ll hide them, and hopefully people will join in the scavenger hunt.”

It’s time brush up on your Mamba knowledge, folks. There’s only so much time left for you to come away with memorabilia collected during Bryant’s playing days. And who knows? The Kobe 11 might be his last signature shoe, too.

Sacramento Kings point guard Rajon Rondo was suspended for one game after allegedly directing a homophobic slur toward NBA referee Bill Kennedy during his team's Dec. 3 loss to the Boston Celtics.

On Sunday, Kennedy revealed to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski that he is gay.

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich told Tim Bontemps of the Washington Post that he was not surprised by Rondo's comments (via ProBasketballTalk):

Why would I be surprised? You see it all the time. It's unfortunate, it's disgusting, because Billy is a great guy, and has been a class act on and off the court. As far as anybody's sexual orientation, it's nobody's business. It just shows ignorance to act in a derogatory way toward anybody in the LGBT community. It doesn't make sense. But surprised, of course not. He showed a lot of courage.

Rondo issued a statement on Twitter, expressing that his actions were "out of frustration and emotion" and that they "do not reflect" his "feelings toward the LGBT community."

This isn’t the first time an NBA player has gotten in trouble for directing a homophobic slur toward someone, but past instances didn't result in suspensions.

Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah was fined $50,000 on May 23, 2011, for using an offensive slur during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

On April 13, 2011, Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant was fined $100,000 for directing an anti-gay slur toward referee Bennie Adams during a game against the San Antonio Spurs.

Rondo’s incident was the first to result in a ban, but many will feel that his statement on Twitter was not good enough. Jimmy Traina of Fox Sports, for example, felt that the apology was staged and insincere:

Sam Amick of USA Today also felt Rondo was insincere, noting the point guard didn't actually apologize:

What’s more, the notion that he "did not mean to offend or disrespect anyone" qualifies as an insult to the general public’s intelligence: The inherent nature of those words he chose for Kennedy is both offensive and disrespectful — first and foremost — to the aggrieved party. In this case, that’s a man in Kennedy who was widely known to be gay in NBA circles.

Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports said the NBA will not take any further action.

Klay Thompson: Bucks 'didn't shut us down; no one shuts us down'

Best price FIFA16 coins only here: Vbgamecoins.com

Klay Thompson wasn't ready to concede defeat after the Golden State Warriors dropped their first game of the season to the Milwaukee Bucks.

After being held to a season-low 95 points on Saturday, Thompson refused to give credit to the Bucks' defense:

Thompson's point, aside from speaking while no doubt feeling the sting of the Warriors' first loss in 249 days, is that his team was facing some tremendously long odds on Saturday.

Not only were they down a starter in Harrison Barnes, but the Warriors were also playing on the second night of a back-to-back after landing on Saturday at 3:30 a.m. They played a double overtime game against the Boston Celtics on Friday, and the reigning champions were also trying to become the first team in NBA history to reel off a perfect seven-game road trip.

All that aside, for Thompson to not give the Bucks - who also played on the second night of a back-to-back - credit for their win is unfair of him.

Milwaukee played it perfectly all night. They stuck quick, long guards to body up and stick with Stephen Curry, and their bigs did a tremendous job of providing help. The Bucks were also the aggressors all game long, and dominated the paint.

Although the odds weren't in their favor, the bottom line is that Milwaukee won. And regardless of how it happened - tired legs be damned - they deserve all the credit in the world for doing what 17 other teams couldn't do so far this season.

Draymond Green took the high road.

Jason Kidd: Stephen Curry is 'our modern-day Jordan'

Jason Kidd was well aware of the talent his Milwaukee Bucks would be up against when they hosted the Golden State Warriors on Saturday.

Before his troops broke up the Warriors' 24-game victory march, the Bucks head coach gushed about reigning MVP Stephen Curry, noting the impact he will have on the younger generation of basketball fans.

"He's our modern-day (Michael) Jordan, in the sense that when we were growing up, we all wanted to be like Mike," Kidd explained, according to The San Francisco Chronicle's Rusty Simmons.

"This younger generation will see Steph playing at a very high level - not only one year, but hopefully for the next five or six years. He's young and still has a lot to give to the game."

With the numbers Curry has put up during Golden State's historic start, the comparisons won't go away anytime soon.

MILWAUKEE — The Golden State Warriors walked slowly off the Bradley Center floor, exchanging handshakes with the victorious Milwaukee Bucks on the way back to their locker room.

They’re not used to losing.

The Warriors’ NBA-record start ended after 24 wins when they lost to the Bucks 108-95 on Saturday night.

"We didn’t have it tonight," interim coach Luke Walton said. "That’s why it is so hard to do what these guys have done so far. It caught up to us."

Golden State fell to 24-1. Its 28-game winning streak, counting the final four games of last season, came to a halt. The NBA’s longest winning streak was 33 by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1971-72 — and it was also snapped by Milwaukee.

"Well, we knew the streak had to end at some point," the Warriors posted on their Twitter account.

It was the way they lost that was a little surprising. This was no squeaker at the buzzer, but a Bucks runaway at the end.

Greg Monroe scored 28 points for the Bucks, who got the all-around effort needed to beat the defending NBA champions.

"When you talk about the streak, what’s bigger than the streak is they’re the world champs," coach Jason Kidd said. "And so, for us, we didn’t talk about the streak, it was about playing the world champs."

It also helped that the Warriors, perhaps fighting fatigue after needing two overtimes to win at Boston on Friday, were cold from 3-point range. They usually make 13 a night, but were just 6 of 26 from behind the arc playing on the final game of a seven-game road trip.

Stephen Curry had 28 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field, including 2 of 8 from 3-point territory.

Not good enough to get past the Bucks, who led by double digits for much of the night before the Warriors cut it to a point a couple times.

In each instance, there was a sense of inevitability that Golden State somehow would go on one of its breakneck-speed runs to put away another opponent.

But the Bucks had an answer each time.

"We never wavered," Monroe said.

He was 11 of 16, including a three-point play with 2:51 left for a 12-point lead.

Michael Carter-Williams’ strong drive down the lane and dunk with 42 seconds left put an exclamation point on Milwaukee’s night.

"We showed some spurts to get back into the game. We got some stops," Curry said. "But for 48 minutes, I don’t think anybody can say we played as hard as they did."

FEAR THE DEER Giddy Bucks fans at the packed Bradley Center erupted with cheers after the final buzzer. A raucous Bucks cheering section proved prophetic after wearing green "24-1" shirts to the game.

Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists for his first career triple-double, while Carter-Williams had 17 points off the bench.

Walton said his team was slow on defensive rotations, and that 16 turnovers were costly.

GOLDEN BLUES Draymond Green had 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors. Klay Thompson, returning after missing a game with a sprained ankle, had 12 points on 4-of-14 shooting.

The Warriors trailed 59-48 at halftime after shooting 2 of 13 from 3-point range. It was just the fourth time this season that Golden State trailed at the half.

The Bucks have clamped down on defence of late after struggling the first few weeks of the season.

"It starts with our defence," Kidd said.

QUOTABLE "Not from me. Losing sucks. Even if you are 24-1, losing still sucks. I’m sure the long flight home tomorrow and guys unwinding a bit, I’m sure there will be a little relief mentally going forward." — Walton, when asked if there a sense of relief that the winning streak had ended.

TIP-INS Warriors: C Andrew Bogut, who was drafted first overall by the Bucks in 2005, finished with two points. He’s even more important to Golden State on the other end of the court. "He’s one of the best defensive centres in the league, he’s one of the most skilled centres in the league," Walton said.

Bucks: PGs Jerryd Bayless and Greivis Vasquez remained out with ankle injuries. … Milwaukee shot 6 of 9 from 3-point range in the first half, led by four from O.J. Mayo.

UP NEXT Warriors: Host Phoenix on Wednesday.

Bucks: At the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.

Bucks deal road-weary Warriors 1st loss

Best price FIFA16 coins only here: http://www.vbgamecoins.com/en/2k16-mt-ps3-/80-nba-2k16-ps3-ps4-200000-mt-points.html

The Milwaukee Bucks have done the impossible.

Behind a 28-point outing from center Greg Monroe, the Bucks handed the road-weary Golden State Warriors their first loss of the season, dropping the defending champions 108-95 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Saturday.

The Warriors are now 24-1.

Just as they did on Friday, the Warriors looked noticeably disjointed throughout Saturday's contest. They immediately conceded a 12-point deficit in the first quarter, and they repeatedly lagged in transition against the young Bucks.

Golden State eventually closed the gap, but the reigning champions simply looked off. Case in point: The league's most accurate team shot worse from deep than the league's worst 3-point shooting team (6-of-26 against 6-of-14).

Draymond Green fired up airballs. Stephen Curry repeatedly hit front iron. Andre Iguodala passed up wide open looks. Even Klay Thompson, who returned and was well-rested after missing a game due to a sprained ankle, clanked all but four of his 14 attempts.

Context does matter here. The reigning champions had played a thoroughly exhausting double-overtime contest against the Boston Celtics the night before, and didn't land in Wisconsin until 3:30 a.m. Golden State had also played six straight road games, and were trying to become the first team in NBA history to go undefeated on a seven-game trip.

But the bottom line is that they lost, and credit goes to the Bucks, who played a nearly perfect game while also on the second night of a back-to-back.

To beat the Warriors' hydra, they needed a Herculean effort to cut off the head of the snake. Buck guards Michael Carter-Williams and O.J. Mayo smothered Curry, and used their length to disrupt his rhythm. Milwaukee's rangy bigs also did a dutiful job of providing help, and picking the right spots to help.

Curry scored 28 points on 2-of-8 shooting from deep. He did most of his damage at the basket, but that was probably preferable to letting him catch fire from deep.

Offensively, the Bucks relied on a relentless diet of drives and post-ups. They had the size advantage at almost every position, and used it effectively. The 6-foot-7 Carter-Williams repeatedly scored over the diminutive Curry, and Monroe was an unstoppable force on the low block. Tack on a steady slew of transition finishes from Giannis Antetokounmpo - who earned his first career triple-double - and Jabari Parker, and the Bucks' ordinarily dormant offense overpowered the backpedaling Warriors.

As tired as they were, Golden State did make a final push. After falling down by 13 with six minutes remaining, the Warriors turned to their trusty small-ball lineup. However, with Curry's prayers going unanswered, downsizing only exacerbated their problems.

Monroe reeled off 11 points in the fourth quarter as he was met with minimal resistance in the paint. Carter-Williams went on to punctuate the victory with an emphatic slam which brought the ecstatic home crowd to its feet. Related - VIDEO: Bucks' Carter-Williams seals upset over Warriors with steal, slam Brushing aside all the hoopla, the Warriors' run was bound to end eventually. During their record start, they made a 23-point comeback, survived two overtime battles, fought the Toronto Raptors to the wire twice, and generally took everyone's best punch. They withstood it all, but the run looked to have taken its toll on the players both mentally and physically. As Green explained after the game, the Warriors can finally have something resembling normalcy.

As for the Bucks, the sleepy northern franchise renewed their status as giant killers. Saturday's win was the sixth time in franchise history that the Bucks have snapped a team's run of at least 12 wins - including ending the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers' untouchable 33-game winning streak.

But there's also a silver lining for the Warriors: The previous five victims of Milwaukee's upsets have all gone on to win the championship. That's a trade-off the Warriors would almost assuredly accept.

Add another defensive accolade to Kevin Garnett's impressive mantle.

The 39-year-old overtook Hall of Famer Karl Malone to become the NBA's all-time leader in defensive rebounds by picking up four boards in Friday's game against the Denver Nuggets.

Garnett's tally now stands at 11,409, while Malone slides into second place at 11,406. Tim Duncan ranks third with 11,036, and counting.

"The Big Ticket" was an absolute monster in his prime. He led the league in rebounding for four straight seasons between 2003 and 2007, and his longevity over his 20-year career has helped him amass an abundance of counting stats.

Garnett also ranks 15th in total points, and 17th all time in blocks.

Draymond Green leads Warriors past Celtics, to 24-0

BOSTON -- Before the Golden State Warriors saved the streak, dragging themselves to a 124-119 double-overtime victory over the scrapping Boston Celtics, they needed to collect themselves.

Down three points with 2:27 left in regulation, the Warriors looked out of character. Stephen Curry had gotten his shot blocked twice within a minute and had stepped out of bounds in between. Draymond Green had missed a long jumper within the sequence. It seemed as though this was the streak’s end -- that the undefeated Warriors would run out of gas and good decisions against an energized, well-coached opponent. Who could blame them, really? Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes were both out with sprained ankles, and the Warriors faced a back-to-back against the Bucks the next night. This was a logical time for a letdown.

At that moment, Green waved his arms slowly, gesturing to his team. His message contrasted with the frenzied action: “Relax, we're OK,” Green said of his speech. He elaborated, telling ESPN.com, “I just told everybody to relax, we've been here before. Act like we've been here before and take care of what we need to take care of.”

Andre Iguodala said of Green’s message, “Just keeping everybody settled in. Everybody seen the situation before; it was just a reminder.”

As much as this Warriors' victory was about fight and perseverance, it was also about poise:

Shaun Livingston needed poise to patiently guard Isaiah Thomas on two buzzer-beater opportunities, refusing to bite on a series of fakes. Poise was needed for Golden State to run a beautiful “elevator doors” set to spring Curry for a 3-pointer with 46 seconds left in regulation. The Warriors could have lost their heads Friday night. Instead, they methodically worked their way to victory. That has generally been the recipe for Golden State comebacks. They keep moving, run their offense and trust that the quality of their team will eventually win out.

“You have to stay calm,” Green said. “If you panic, you're going to force a shot, you're going to go for something you don't need. All we have to do is stay calm, stay true to ourselves, and it'll all work out.”

It was fitting that the toughest game of the streak served as Green's opus. The Warriors needed a signature game from the man who personifies clichés like “heart,” “grit,” and “hustle.” While Curry scored 38 difficult points (on 27 shots), mostly blanketed by Avery Bradley, Green provided 50 relentless minutes.

“Draymond was huge,” interim coach Luke Walton said. “I think he had five steals, five blocks; he does everything for us on the court.” Walton was correct about the five steals and five blocks -- plus 24 points, 11 boards and 8 assists.

Early in the contest, there were inklings that this type of high-speed game would suit Green nicely. On a second-quarter layup, the Celtics' Thomas flipped onto his back after crashing into Green. Green stood over Thomas and pounded his chest while screaming. Some teams might not like it, but so far, they can’t beat it. They can’t do it even on a night when the Warriors are short-handed and vulnerable.

With Thompson and Barnes out, Curry and Green had to generate much of the offense. Curry struggled to get free from Bradley’s clutches, and the Warriors generally found space scarce. The Warriors are used to the room Thompson provides, moving the ball around until holes open in the defense. This time, they could not be so patient. Green had to forge a difficult path on quite a few possessions, driving into a gnashing Celtics defense and throwing himself into transition opportunities. Curry had to fire the ball up when covered, just because that’s what the situation required.

The Warriors needed every bit of effort on Friday, not just from Green but from everyone. They needed Curry’s genius on offense, Festus Ezeli's forceful play off the bench, Andrew Bogut's sturdy rim protection, Iguodala’s perimeter defense and Livingston’s shot creation.

They got just enough to move on, undefeated.

More than a few Warriors have talked about “not wanting to catch that first L.” It was easy to downplay the streak before, but it’s becoming harder to downplay what feels like history. In the meantime, Green’s message, “Act like we've been here before,” resonates for a team going places no one else has visited.

Reggie Miller: 'I'd take down Steph at my peak'

Best price NBA 2K16 MT coins only here: http://www.vbgamecoins.com/en/2k16-mt-ps3-/80-nba-2k16-ps3-ps4-500000-mt-points.html

Reggie Miller acknowledges Stephen Curry's greatness (how could he not?), but he's not quite ready to crown him as the best shooter ever.

Miller, who ranks second in NBA history in 3-pointers made, told the New Yorker that he would have beaten Curry in his prime.

"All truly great shooters - Dale Ellis, Larry Bird, Craig Hodges, Chris Mullin - we always believed that we were the best shooters in the world," Miller said. "So, yeah, I'd take down Steph at my peak. Sure, my form wasn't as good as his. But it's all about results, man."

The results are somewhat mixed. Miller is miles ahead of Curry in terms of total makes (2,560 to 1,310), but he lags in 3-point percentage (44.2 to 39.5) and Curry is shooting and making a significantly higher volume of threes over the past three seasons than Miller ever did.

But longevity is the point Miller's trying to make. He believes Curry can become "one of the best ever," but some of Miller's contemporaries from the '80s and '90s have Curry beat.

"He still has a lot of chapters to write," Miller said, "but, right now, you could certainly consider him among the top-five shooters of all time. The streak that Steph has been on since last season rivals the greats of the game.

"It's hard to say he's better than Larry Bird or he's better than Steve Kerr, his coach, because those guys did it for much longer. But for this short a period he's in that group. And he keeps improving. If he can beat his own record for most threes in a season, then you've got to consider him one of the best ever."

Miller's point is fair, and making cross-era comparisons using statistics alone is foolhardy, but it's undeniable that what Curry's doing is nothing short of superhuman. The combined volume, accuracy, and the style of Curry's shooting - that's what makes his current-day pursuits so impressive.

Put it this way: Curry broke his own record for most 3-pointers made in a season with 286 last season. With 119 makes through 23 games, Curry's on pace to hit 426.

Report: LeBron's lifetime deal with Nike worth more than $500M

LeBron James' lifetime deal with Nike will not only keep the Cleveland Cavaliers forward in the company's clothes and sneakers for the rest of his life, it will also make him an even richer man.

According to USA Today's Sam Amick, Nike's lifetime deal with James will pay him "significantly more than" $500 million.

According to a person with knowledge of the situation, James' lifetime shoe deal that was revealed on Monday is worth significantly more than the $500 million that has been speculated in some media reports and — at the current rate of sales — is also worth more than $30 million on an annual basis. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the financial terms.

While an exact figure hasn't been disclosed, it's quite clear that King James — who at 30 years of age became Nike's first lifetime client in the company's 44-year history — is the sneaker king of the NBA.

$500 million is a lot more than James Harden's recent $200 million deal with Adidas and Kevin Durant's $300 million deal with Nike. James' popularity has made Nike extremely profitable so although $500 million sounds like a lot (it is), it makes financial sense for the sneaker company to lock the Cavs forward up for as long as they could.

James is very focused on building his brand and has begun to amass a little empire which extends past sports. Now with this Nike deal, it is quite clear that his brand will not only be financially viable for a long time but that it will also keep growing.

Thompson's 10 treys help Warriors tie 2nd-longest NBA winning streak

Best price FIFA16 coins only here: Vbgamecoins.com

"En fuego" is Spanish for "on fire," and is a noted sports cliche. On Tuesday, there was no description more apt for the Golden State Warriors and shooting guard Klay Thompson through three quarters against the Indiana Pacers.

Thompson buried 10 3-pointers - two off the NBA record for treys in a single game - as the Warriors won 131-123 to go to 23-0 on the season. Adding the Dubs' final four wins of last season, the 27 straight ties the 2012-13 Miami Heat for the second-longest winning streak in league history.

Related: Andre Iguodala knows that Klay Thompson is on fire

The Dubs also set an NBA record for best road start to a season at 13-0.

All was not perfect, though. At one point, they led the confused-looking Pacers by 30 points late in the third. Thompson sat to begin the fourth, coinciding with the start of an Indiana comeback attempt that saw them outscore Golden State 40-20 in the final frame.

He returned to the game with 5:48 remaining, but exited after hurting his right ankle with less than a minute left.

Thompson's final line was still gaudy: 39 points on 13-for-21 shooting, including 10-of-16 from deep. It helped defray a rare off night from beyond the arc for Stephen Curry, who went 3-for-11 from deep, but still finished with 29 points.

Paul George scored 33 points for the Pacers.
