Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler took exception to a hard screen set by Portland Trail Blazers center Mason Plumlee on Tuesday night before retaliating with a takedown of his own, and the All-Star swingman didn't mince words regarding his objections to the big man's actions. After Butler was slapped with a technical foul and Plumlee received one of the flagrant variety, Butler told reporters he wanted the former Duke Blue Devil to break out his wallet and pay the $2,500 fine billed to players upon receiving a technical.
"Basketball, emotions, that’s part of the game," he said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Joe Cowley. "Yeah, he cost me $2,500. I’m going to ask him to pay me back, and I’m not playing. I’m going to ask, nicely. Yeah, I’m going to get that. I’m going to tell my agent to email or something. I know it’s like MisterDukie@yahoo.com or something."
Whether Plumlee repays him or not, Butler got the last laugh Tuesday night by scoring a game-high 22 points in the Bulls' 93-88 win. And with a freshly inked five-year, $95 million contract paying Butler more than $15 million annually, per Spotrac, the $2,500 fine shouldn't make a particularly big dent in his checking account.
